In Namisindwa, a woman named Jessica Makulo, 56, has been arrested for allegedly trying to cover up a defilement case involving her son.
According to the police, Jessica offered Shs. 400,000 to the relatives of a 6-year-old girl who was allegedly defiled by her 18-year-old son, Bryan Makulo.
Reports from the police indicate that Jessica, in an attempt to prevent her son from facing legal consequences, tried to bribe the victim's family.
She offered them the money in exchange for dropping the charges and staying quiet about the case. However, her plan failed when the relatives reported her actions to the police, leading to her arrest.
“This is a very serious case, and we will not allow anyone to interfere with justice. The law will take its course,” said a police spokesperson.
The police have assured the public that they are working hard to protect vulnerable children and ensure that those who commit such crimes face the full force of the law.
The arrest of Jessica Makulo has sparked a wave of reactions from Ugandans on social media, many of whom have praised the police for their prompt action.
"This is exactly what we need – justice for the innocent. I hope this will serve as a lesson to others who think they can get away with such crimes," said one social media user.
In addition to this case, the Uganda Police Force is also focusing on improving road safety in the country.
Boda-boda riders, who have been involved in many road accidents, are being urged to be more careful and responsible while on the road.
Police reports show that Boda-boda accidents have been a major cause of road fatalities in 2024.
Authorities are calling for riders to be extra cautious, especially when transporting children, as some Boda-boda operators have recently been arrested for involvement in child trafficking.
Road safety is a top priority for us. We want to make sure that all road users, especially children, are safe.
