Former Buyaga MP Ignatius Besisira Dies at 69

Uganda has lost another prominent leader as Honorable Ignatius Besisira, the former Buyaga County MP in the 9th Parliament, passed away today at the age of 69.

His death comes shortly after the nation mourned the passing of sitting MP Muhammad Ssegirinya and former Koboko District Woman MP Margeret Baba Diri last Thursday.

Besisira's demise makes him the third former legislator to die within just one month, following the earlier loss of Dr. Frank Nabwiso, who served Kagoma County.

The news has left many in shock, especially given the short time span between these losses.

Speaking about the tragedy, a close source shared,
“We have lost a dedicated leader who served his people with honor. His contributions to Buyaga County and the country will never be forgotten.”

Besisira was well-known for his work as a lawmaker and for the passion with which he served his constituents in Buyaga County.

Even after leaving Parliament, he remained active in his community and continued to advocate for better services.

His journey, however, was not without challenges. In August 2014, he survived a life-threatening car accident along the Kagadi-Hoima road while traveling to his constituency.

The crash left him with serious injuries, but he fought hard to recover and resume his duties.

Reflecting on the 2014 incident, one local resident recalled,

“We thought we had lost him back then, but he proved to be a fighter. It’s sad that we are now saying goodbye forever.

Besisira’s death adds to the growing list of losses in Uganda’s Parliament.

Just last week, the nation was shocked by the passing of MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, who was serving in the current Parliament, and Margeret Baba Diri, a former MP.

These back-to-back deaths have left many questioning the health and well-being of the country’s leaders.

“This is a hard time for Uganda,” said one observer.

“We’ve lost leaders who shaped the nation in different ways. Their absence will leave a gap not easily filled.”

Messages of condolence have been pouring in from various leaders and citizens. Many described Besisira as a kind, approachable man who was always ready to help.

Others praised his efforts in promoting development projects in Buyaga County during his time in office.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Buyaga County,” said a fellow politician.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
