Kawempe Division councilors have made a heartfelt decision to name a road in Kyebando after the late MP Ssegirinya.
This resolution was passed during a special meeting held on Friday, January 10, 2025, where leaders and mourners gathered to remember Ssegirinya’s remarkable contributions to his community.
“This is a way to honor a man who gave his all to serve his people,” said Kawempe Division Mayor Emmanuel Sserunjogi, who led the initiative.
The councilors unanimously agreed that naming a road after Ssegirinya would be a fitting tribute to his relentless efforts to improve the lives of his constituents.
Ssegirinya was widely known for his dedication to humanitarian work and advocacy for better services in Kawempe North.
His passion for helping others left a lasting impact, and the community wanted a way to keep his memory alive.
“He was more than just a politician,” one of the mourners said.
“He was a father, a brother, and a voice for the voiceless. This road will remind us of the great things he did.”
While most councilors supported the road-naming resolution, some suggested other ways to honor Ssegirinya.
“Why don’t we also think about building a health center in his name?” one councilor proposed during the meeting.
“He worked so hard to improve healthcare in our area. Let’s make sure that legacy lives on.”
The resolution comes as the community mourns Ssegirinya’s untimely death. Family, friends, politicians, and residents gathered at Mbogo Mosque to pay their last respects. Many spoke about the void left by his passing and the importance of continuing his work.
A committee has been appointed to finalize the process and verify the selected road in Kyebando. Once approved, the road will officially be named Ssegirinya Road.
As Kawempe prepares to lay their beloved leader to rest, Mayor Sserunjogi emphasized the significance of the tribute.
“This is more than a name on a road. It is a symbol of what Ssegirinya stood for – hope, service, and change,” he said.
