“Judge, You Should Have Listened to The Doctors” Public Outrage Erupts Over Ssegirinya’s Death After Bail Denial

The untimely death of Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya has caused an uproar among Ugandans.

Many are blaming Judge Lawrence Twayanze of Masaka High Court for refusing to grant him bail, despite medical evidence showing how critical his health had become.

“Judge, you should have listened to the doctors!” one concerned citizen said during a heated online discussion.

Ssegirinya was not just any MP; he was a beloved leader known for his hard work and dedication to the people of Kawempe North.

However, he faced criminal charges that many believed were politically motivated. While in custody, his health got worse, with doctors from the government warning that he needed urgent medical attention.

When Ssegirinya’s lawyers presented his case in court, they included medical reports that painted a grim picture of his condition.

The reports were clear: he needed specialized care, and it could not wait. Yet, Judge Twayanze denied the bail request, saying, “The charges are too serious, and there’s a risk he might run away if released.”

This decision has angered many Ugandans, who feel it lacked compassion. “Is the law more important than a life?” asked another citizen on social media.

Human rights advocates and legal experts have also criticized the judge, accusing him of ignoring the principle that everyone has a right to life and humane treatment.

After Ssegirinya’s death, social media platforms exploded with messages of anger and sadness. One emotional post read,

“We warned you, Judge Twayanze. Now a man has died because you refused to listen to medical experts.”

His passing has reignited debates about Uganda’s judiciary. Many are questioning whether the courts are fair, especially in cases that involve politics. Some Ugandans feel the judiciary is being used to silence political opponents.

Human rights groups have also stepped in, calling for reforms to prevent such tragedies in the future.

“Judges must always consider humanity when making decisions,” said a representative from a prominent rights organization.

“This is not just about Ssegirinya. It’s about ensuring no one dies in custody because their health was ignored.”

People are also asking for accountability.
“Judge Twayanze, do you feel no remorse? A life is gone because of you,” another angry Ugandan said during a radio interview.

The government has yet to issue a statement about Ssegirinya’s death, but the public is demanding answers.

Many believe this could have been avoided if the judge had acted differently.

“We don’t want excuses. We want justice!” shouted a group of protesters outside the court in Masaka.

As the debate continues, one thing is clear: Ssegirinya’s death has left a mark on the nation.
“We may have lost Ssegirinya, but we must ensure no one else suffers the same fate,” said a grieving supporter.
