Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya Buried in Emotional Send-Off

On Sunday, January 12, 2025, a large crowd gathered in Masaka District to bid farewell to Muhammad Ssegirinya, the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North.

Ssegirinya, who passed away on January 9, 2025, after a brief illness, was laid to rest in an emotional send-off, attended by family, friends, and political leaders.

Ssegirinya was a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), and his death has left a deep void in the political landscape of Uganda.

The ceremony, which took place at his ancestral home in Masaka, was a somber occasion, with many expressing their grief over the loss of a leader who had dedicated his life to serving his community.

The funeral arrangements, which were initially planned for Saturday, were rescheduled to Sunday to allow family members coming from abroad to attend.

This delay was a rare exception, as Islamic tradition generally requires that the deceased be buried as soon as possible.

Ssegirinya's body had remained at Lubaga Hospital mortuary before the final send-off, which included several key events leading up to his burial.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) organized a vigil on Thursday evening at their headquarters in Makerere-Kavule to honor Ssegirinya.

The following day, his body was brought to Parliament for the public to pay their respects before being moved to Mbogo Mosque in Kawempe for prayers.

From there, the procession made its way to Kasangati, Ssegirinya's home, before traveling to Masaka for the burial.

Family members, political leaders, and fellow NUP members were seen sharing heartfelt tributes during the ceremony.

They praised Ssegirinya for his dedication to his constituents and his tireless work as a member of Parliament.

His untimely death has not only left a void in the political sphere but also in the hearts of many who admired his commitment to improving the lives of Ugandans.
